Ground Breaking Ceremony for New Badminton & Squash Facility




















On March 19, 2025, a monumental Groundbreaking Ceremony took place, which marked the start of construction of a state-of-the-art Badminton & Squash Indoor Facility in Barbados by the National Sports Council at the Garfield Sobers Sports Complex.
Minister of Youth, Sports & Community Empowerment, Hon. Charles Griffith, M.P., emphasized Government’s commitment to advancing sports infrastructure across the country.
President of the Barbados Badminton Association, Kevin Wood expressed gratitude to the NSC during the ceremony, highlighting the facility’s potential to elevate badminton’s status in Barbados.
Similarly, President of the Barbados Squash Association, Craig Archer conveyed his excitement, noting that the new courts would provide athletes with a world-class environment to hone their skills.
The facility is poised to become a central hub for both sports, offering modern amenities that cater to athletes of all levels. Its completion within the next 12 to 18 months, is anticipated to foster greater participation, enhance training programmes and position Barbados as a competitive force in regional and international badminton and squash arenas
