The National Sports Council is dedicated to developing sports in Barbados and is responsible for sports development programmes at the national level.

Mission, Goals & Objectives

Mission Statement

To create avenues for the development of programmes that will promote and facilitate participation in recreational, competitive and high performance sports for all Barbadians.

Goals

To provide a high level of service in the area of coaching, provision and maintenance of sporting facilities and general sport administration in the interest of educational institutions, local clubs, youth and community groups, National Associations/Federations; and the promotion of mass participation in the pursuit of excellence in sports.

Objectives

The aim of the National Sports Council is to develop an active, healthy and fit society through sports and physical activities in line with the overall efforts of the Government in nation building. Much of the general objectives over the 42 years include:

Director’s Message

The National Sports Council is the lead agency tasked with developing sports in Barbados – from the primary level to elite National athletes. A major part of our mandate is also to develop sports at the community level via community programmes that are open to all ages and abilities. Thanks to the expertise of the highly qualified and experienced Coaching & Maintenance staff, the Council is able to fulfil its mandate of not only developing sports at the National level, but providing and maintaining facilities across the country.
