BSSAC 2025


The 2025 Dasani-Powerade Barbados Secondary Schools Athletic Championships (BSSAC) concluded with thrilling performances and a vibrant atmosphere that captivated athletes, coaches, and spectators alike. This year’s competition saw a return to the traditional two-zone format, enhancing the competitive spirit among participating schools.
In the girls’ division, Alleyne School led after the first day of finals with 60 points, showcasing their depth and determination. The St. Michael School and Queen’s College followed closely, setting the stage for an intense battle for supremacy. On the boys’ side, Queen’s College took an early lead with 55 points, with Alleyne School and Combermere School in hot pursuit.
The championships were marked by record-breaking feats, including Harrison College’s Laila McIntyre setting a new BSSAC record in the open girls’ 3000m with a time of 10:34.32. This performance not only secured her the gold medal but also demonstrated the high caliber of talent present at this year’s meet.
The atmosphere at the Usain Bolt Sports Complex was electric, with enthusiastic supporters cheering on their respective schools, creating a vibrant and spirited environment. The return to the two-zone format added an extra layer of excitement, fostering fierce yet friendly competition among the schools. The organizing committee’s efforts to enhance the event’s quality, including technical adjustments to the hurdles events aimed at increasing participation, were well-received and contributed to the overall success of the championships.
