All the Benefits of Summer Camp
The 2025 National Sports Council Summer Camp has proven once again to be more than just a sporting programme — it’s a place where skills are sharpened, passions are discovered, friendships are built, and the future of youth in sport shines brighter every day.
This year’s camp showcased a wide variety of sporting disciplines, from football, basketball, volleyball, and netball, to swimming, road tennis, karting, archery, skating, and even bodybuilding. Campers had the opportunity to challenge themselves, try new activities, and build confidence in areas they may never have explored before. Each sport not only strengthened their athletic abilities but also taught life lessons of discipline, resilience, and teamwork.
Beyond the physical benefits, camp also sparked creativity and leadership. This year, we witnessed the birth of two budding commentators, Abi and Amitai, who brought a new energy to the camp experience. Abi embraced the role of interviewer, shining a spotlight on her fellow campers by asking them what they enjoyed most this summer. She also boldly took on new challenges herself, diving into skating, archery, and bodybuilding — proving that camp is all about trying, learning, and growing.
Meanwhile, Amitai gave us one of the most inspiring moments of camp with his honest reflections. While he is confident in road tennis and football, he admitted swimming has been his weaker area. However, through perseverance and guidance, he’s making steady progress — a development that will no doubt boost his future in triathlons. His passion, courage, and optimism not only motivated his fellow campers but also resonated with many across Barbados. His words reminded us of all that the future of our youth is full of promise.
At its heart, the National Sports Council Summer Camp is about more than sport. It’s about friendships that last, personalities that flourish, and opportunities that empower young people to dream big. The campers’ voices this year carried a simple but powerful message: Get Moving, Get Active, Go Sports.
