A Night of Strength, Dedication and Triumph
The 2025 Barbados National Bodybuilding & Fitness Championships, hosted by the Barbados Amateur Bodybuilding & Fitness Federation, came to an exciting close on Saturday, September 5, 2025 at the Garfield Sobers Gymnasium.
From first-timers to seasoned champions, the athletes left it all on stage, giving the crowd a thrilling display of muscle, aesthetics, and performance.
Trudi-Anne had a golden night, claiming victory in the Women’s Bikini Fitness up to & incl. 164 cm as well as the coveted Women’s Bikini Fitness Overall title. With her husband by her side, her dedication and hard work from the start of the year paid off, earning her a well-deserved double crown.
Avlyn delivered an impressive performance, capturing both the Women’s Wellness Unified Division and the Women’s Wellness Overall, proving her dominance in her category.
Haquiem successfully defended his title, emerging victorious in the Men’s Physique up to & incl. 173 cm and going on to secure the Men’s Physique Overall award. His powerful statement summed it up best: “It’s in a champion’s nature to defend his title.”
The evening also shone a light on the incredible youth talent rising in Barbados:
Zara Mars – Winner of Children Artistic Fitness
Aria Howell – Winner of Children Artistic Fitness up to & incl. 13 years of age
Lauren Hinds – Winner of Children Physique Over 13 years of age
These outstanding young athletes brought energy and inspiration to the stage, proving that the future of bodybuilding and fitness in Barbados is already in strong hands.
One of the most moving moments of the evening came from “Sarge,” a 71-year-old prostate cancer survivor, who took to the stage and showed that age and adversity are no barriers to strength and determination. His story was a reminder that bodybuilding is not only about aesthetics but about resilience, health, and inspiring others to push past life’s challenges. His participation received a heartfelt ovation and stood as one of the most memorable highlights of the night.
Beyond the excitement of competition, bodybuilding and body fitness continue to serve as a positive avenue for Barbados’ youth. The discipline promotes healthy lifestyle choices, physical strength, and mental resilience, while also building confidence in and out of the gym. With growing participation and the spotlight on our local champions, bodybuilding is becoming a viable sporting path for young athletes who want to balance fitness, performance, and personal growth.
