New Ground, Same Spirit: NSC Summer Camp 2025

New Ground, Same Spirit: NSC Summer Camp 2025

The National Sports Council’s Summer Camp 2025 is in full swing and bringing the heat—this time with a new twist. One of the most exciting changes this year is the introduction of a brand-new location at the Ursuline Convent in Collymore Rock, St. Michael, and it’s already proving to be a game changer.

With ongoing upgrades at other sites, the Convent has stepped up as a vibrant hub for youth sports, particularly for campers aged 8 to 11. The spacious and secure campus has provided a perfect environment for sports like netball, table tennis, cheerleading, boxing, and football. This shift not only allows for more focused training in a quieter space but also helps ease crowding at larger venues, offering young athletes a more personal and supportive experience.

With over 1,500 campers registered islandwide, the six-week camp is one of the largest youth sporting initiatives on the island. Across all venues, campers are engaged in 23 sports disciplines, from basketball and road tennis to swimming and martial arts. But the camp goes beyond just physical activity—this year’s programming also includes workshops on topics like mental health, anti-bullying, personal hygiene, and nutrition. These sessions ensure that while children are learning to play hard, they’re also being supported in how to think, feel, and care for themselves and others.

Of course, it wouldn’t be summer camp without a little adventure—and the fun didn’t stop at the sports field. Campers have been treated to a series of fantastic tours across the island, from Bushy Park go-karting and Atlantis Submarine dives to Harrison’s Cave, and Scenic bus tours. These outings brought a spirit of discovery and fun to the camp and gave kids the opportunity to explore Barbados in ways many had never experienced before. Not only were they learning and growing as athletes, but they were also forming lifelong friendships and memories.

It was emphasized that this year’s multi-venue, multi-discipline model is rooted in inclusion and opportunity. The use of alternative locations like Ursuline Convent shows the NSC’s dedication to reaching more communities while still maintaining the quality and reach of their programming. The result is a summer camp that offers far more than drills and match play—it’s become a place where the next generation of Barbadian talent is being shaped on and off the court.

Parents have praised the smaller group sizes and structured coaching, while campers are raving about the fun and excitement of both the training and the tours. Whether it’s dribbling down the court, taking a dive into the sea, or exploring underground caves, Camp 2025 has made it clear: sports can be thrilling, empowering, and transformational.

With this kind of energy and vision, it’s no surprise that NSC Summer Camp remains a cherished tradition. Here’s to the new venue, the amazing coaches and sponsors, and of course, the young athletes. We can’t wait to see what’s next.

Get Moving. Get Active. Go Sports.
